What Mood are You In?

Have you ever been in such a bad or good mood that you wanted your music to reflect it? Well look no further than the Gracenote MoodGrid. This technology, which is already an Android Tablet App, allows you to create a music playlist on a grid and select what kind of mood you are in. There is a different mood on each axis, Positive, Energetic, Calm and Dark. When you touch a point on the graph that is created by these four moods, Gracenote MoodGrid automatically creates a playlist to your specification. The songs are pulled from your music player, or subscription service like Spotify.

The great thing about the Gracenote MoodGrid is that it has been scaled down and implemented with Garmin which means it could be used in vehicles, such as a Nissan, this year!

Celtics are Double Trouble Against the Wizards

The Celtics have won three straight games improving to 3-3. The Washington Wizards, with rising superstar John Wall, were handed back to back losses by the Celtics with great performances by Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. The Celtics now look to make it four straight wins on Thursday when they face Deron Williams and the New Jersey Nets who are just 1-5.

Winless Celtics look to Rebound Tonight

With an 0-3 record, the Boston Celtics are looking to rebound against the Detroit Pistons tonight at the TD Bank North Garden. Both teams are looking for their first win tonight and Boston is looking to avoid their worst start in 42 years. With Pierce still questionable for tonight's game, Boston will have to improve their defense greatly and minimize the amount of turnovers they give up (an NBA League leading 18.7 turnovers per game).

Key Matchup: Rodney Stuckey vs. Rajon Rondo

While Rondo seems to have the upper-hand on Stuckey both offensively and defensively; If Rondo continues to commit turnovers Stuckey could have the last laugh.

Car Innovation: Phone Technology of the Future!

Are you often distracted by your phone while driving? Have you ever been driving your Nissan and seen someone swerving on the road because they are on the phone? Researchers from the Stevens Institute of Technology and Rutgers in New Jersey may have a solution to this problem...

These researchers have created a program that when you are using your cellphone the Bluetooth connection and speakers in your car can detect it and shut your phone off. The even cooler part of this technology is that it can shut down a phone with about 95% accuracy but also allow passengers to make phone calls because it can tell where the signal is coming from.

Framingham Nissan and the Shaker Auto Group are proud supporters of the Perkins School for the Blind. We would like to congratulate the Perkins School for the Blind on their new technology center! The Grousbeck Center for Students and Technology is a state of the art facility that not only allows students to try out some of the newest technological gadgets but also creates an environment where students can socialize and bond with one another. This 17,000 square foot technology center contains a cafe, fully equipped radio station, talking campus model, tactical world map and much, much more! Another great function of the Grousbeck Center for Students and Technology is that it also acts as a World class teaching facility, allowing educators all over the world to communicate with one another through iPad technology. This will lead to more communication between educators which creates the ability to learn different learning techniques, styles and curriculum.

Our very own Joe Shaker had a first hand look at the new Grousbeck Center for Students and Technology and was truly amazed; "Having a place to use the latest technology as well as an area to hangout and socialize are two huge advancements that further make Perkins the leading school of its kind. I was amazed when I saw the Grousbeck Center."

Framingham Nissan Goes to Monday Night Raw!

Finally Framingham Nissan has gone to Monday Night Raw! It was our first time to this great event and we didn't know what to expect. What was the outcome of the event? Possibly one of the greatest nights we have had in a long time. Not only did we get to see the Rock "ELECTRIFY" the crowd but we also got to see a surprise wrestler step into the ring, non-other than the Hardcore Legend himself Mic Foley! The icing on the cake for us here at Framingham Nissan was seeing John Cena, who was born and raised in Massachusetts, comeback to Boston!

We can't wait for Survivor Series this weekend and hope that John Cena and The Rock can beat the Miz and R-Truth! Hopefully we will get to see Raw again when it comes back to the TD Garden on March 5th!

The New Juke-R: The Ultimate Crossover

Are you ready for a new Super Crossover? Nissan is currently working on combining the Nissan Juke with the G-TR! This new Juke will have a similar interior to the GT-R and "features flared wheel arches, revised front and rear bumpers plus a unique split rear wing. Powering this concept is the same powerplant found under the hood of the GT-R, a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. It’s even being outfitted with a modified GT-R 4WD driveline and prop shaft, as well as 20-inch RAYS forged alloy rims."

The Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, located in the South End of Boston, was founded in 1908 and educates students to go into a technical career. Recent graduation statistics for the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology show 53% of their students complete their program within three years. "According to the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) that number is twice the national average for two-year colleges, and three times greater than the graduation rate for two-year colleges in Massachusetts." Recently one of the members of our family, Joe Shaker, was given the great opportunity of giving the commencement address for this tremendous school!

Nissan Announces Prices for 2012 Xterra, Pathfinder and Frontier

Nissan has recently released the pricing for its 2012 Pathfinder, Xterra and Frontier models.

The Nissan Pathfinder's pricing starts at $29,380 and ranges to $44,060 depending on the model you are looking for. The 2012 Nissan Pathfinder model lineup consists of the Pathfinder S, SV, Silver Edition, LE, LE V8. In addition to these different models, you can choose from an array of different add-ons to each one of them including a moon roof, navigation and other items.

Like the Nissan Pathfinder, the Nissan Xterra comes in a wide array of different models including the S, X and Pro 4-X. The price range for these models goes from $25,070 (Xterra X 4x2 V6 5AT) to $31,350 (Xterra Pro-4X 4x4 V6 5AT) and has many different add-ons to choose from.

Finally, the 2012 Nissan Frontier is the least expensive model out of the three, with a starting price of $19,010, and offers different models such as the S King Cab, the SV King Cab and the Pro-4X King Cab. Nissan is also offering a new Sport Appearance Package and 3 exterior colors, Lava Red, Brilliant Silver and Metallic Blue.

The Check Engine Light: Should you be worried?

Have you ever been driving down the highway and all the sudden, a faint glow comes from your car's dashboard? You realize that it is your check engine light and you immediately panic. Does this mean you need to go in for a repair on your engine or is it something more minor than that? Many people ask themselves these same questions everyday, so what are some of the main causes for your mysterious check engine light to come on?

CarMD recently collected data on 170,000 vehicles that have been repaired from 1996 to 2010 and examined what are the main reasons for that pesky check engine light to come on. The following is what they found in their analysis:

Faulty Oxygen Sensor
A Loose or Non-Existent Gas Cap
Damaged Catalytic Convertor
A Mass Air Flow Sensor Malfunction
Misfiring Spark Plugs

As you can see the reasons for your vehicle's check engine light to go off range from extremely serious issues to minor repairs. The moral of this story is when that check engine light goes off, get your vehicle checked immediately because it is better to be safe than sorry, even if it is a loose gas cap!

Trying to invent a Car for the Blind

Dennis Hong, the founder and director of RoMeLa, is a central figure for several breakthroughs in robot design and engineering. His latest innovation could potentially become a huge breakthrough in the automotive industry; Mr. Hong is trying to invent a car for the blind.

Now this isn't a "self driving" car but a car where "a non-sighted driver can determine speed, proximity, route and drive independently." To make this independent driving experience available for non-sighted drivers, Mr. Hong has used such tools as GPS, laser rangefinders and robotics to build and test out his prototype.

Framingham Nissan is a supporter of Mr. Hong's recent innovations. We feel that this technology could lead to many new innovations that would help in other everyday activities, such as helping blind students in classrooms or helping are friends at the Perkins School for the Blind.

QR Codes the Way of the Future for Nissan?

Nissan is hoping that this will provide customers with a more informational and interactive shopping experience. After accessing the QR Code through a QR Reader, the customer will be able to gain access to information and features such as:

Nissan's CEO Reflects on the LEAF

In March of 2011 Fast Company named Nissan number 4 on their "World's 50 Most Innovative Companies" list for their creation of the Nissan LEAF. Fast Company interviewed Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn, about his brazen investment in all-electric technology and the skepticism he faced.

When asked to give a 30-second sales pitch for the LEAF, Ghosn replied:

This is the only zero-emission car on the market. Other cars use gasoline; this one, there is not a one drop. It's fun to drive, but I can't describe it. The only way you'll discover it is by getting behind the wheel. There's no vibration, no smell, no noise. This is the future-and everything else is going to look obsolete, like sending messages with pigeons.

Nissan has staked a lot on the success of the LEAF but Ghosn doesn't believe this is the end of the internal combustion engine. They are estimating that within the next 10 years the electric car will dominate 10% of the global market, though many other studies have labeled the percentage much lower.

In order to get ahead in the all-electric race, Ghosn had to get the 350,000 employees behind him and excited about the project. Which as you can imagine, probably wasn't a very easy task but here is how he saw it:

It was a big decision to go in this direction in 2006.The first reason was we thought we could change the battery. We had technology to invest in. Number two, we had the consciousness that something had to be done about global warming. Number three, oil was becoming an issue-not only an environmental issue but a political issue... Then fourth element was that the Asian markets were exploding. In 10 years, you're not going to have 700 million cars driven every day on the planet; you're going to have 2 billion. If you already have an emissions problem with 700 million cars, what problems are you going to have with 2 billion?

Since March, the original 20,000 units sold out faster than anyone had expected and demand isn't relenting. Are electric vehicles going to take over the future? Director, Chris Paine, created a documentary following Nissan, GM, Tesla Motors, and guy who just wants to change the world in their quest to create a mass produced electric vehicle. The movie is called "Revenge of the Electric Car" and it is fascinating, check out the trailer below.

Nissan LEAF Test Drive: Review

Last weekend the Nissan LEAF drive electric tour was in Boston and I went to take a test drive of the all electric vehicle. The event which, is touring all over the US, not only allows you the chance to test drive the vehicle but gives you the opportunity to speak with the specialists and have all your questions answered.

After I check-in they took about 6 of us on a brief tour of the vehicle. A Nissan Specialist explained how the battery system works, vehicle maintenance and the charging process/home station. There are 48 lithium ion battery modules in the vehicle, each completely encased to keep them protected from the elements. If a battery dies only that one will be replaced. The charging station can charge the entire vehicle in 8 hours and if you have the fast charge system it only takes 30 minutes (not recommend for regular use).

The test drive lasts around 15 minutes where they lead you around a winding road of orange traffic cones. The car is incredibly fun to drive. It handles curves like a dream and while in eco-mode you can conserve energy. The drive didn't really give you a chance to take it out on the open road and really test its power (rush hour traffic in Boston) but I definitely felt like I was driving a real car and not some tinker toy. The inside is surprisingly roomy even for some of the bigger guys. It's perfect for people who only have to go about 20 miles to work everyday and you can refill at around $3 per 100 miles.

If you are interested in purchasing a LEAF reservations will be opened back up this Fall for the New England area. They will be coming with the Winter package: heated seats, heated steering wheel, heated battery pack plus a lot more. Reservations can be made at the Nissan LEAF website with a $99 deposit. Nissan will start delivering vehicles between January 2012 and the summer of 2012.

5 Advantages: 2011 Nissan Quest vs. Toyota Sienna

2011 Nissan Quest Vs. Toyota Sienna

Nissan has been a front runner in design and innovation and now we are taking a look at the advantages the all new 2011 Nissan Quest has over its top competitor the Toyota Sienna.

1. Is that an engine in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
The Quest and the Sienna both offer a V6 engine however; it is not standard in the Sienna. Standard the Sienna comes with a four-cylinder engine with 187 hp compared to the 3.5 liter V6 of the Quest with 260-hp. This will become quite evident when you are chugging along with a family of five and all your stuff for vacation.

2. Miles Per Gallon
Toyota's four-cylinder and Nissan's V6 receive 19 mpg city/24 mpg highway. So for less power, there is no added benefit of better fuel economy.

3. Six-Speed vs. Continuously Variable Transmissions
You will find that the Quest has Nissan's Xtronic continuously variable transmission or CVT for short. Though most of us are use to the six-speed the CVT brings a lot to the table. There is no shifting of gears so you maximize engine performance and economy. It also is an incredibly smooth ride even during the stop-and-go morning commute.

4. Handling and Drive-ability
The four-wheel independent suspension system in the Quest attributes to the comfortable drive and handling agility. The "torsion beam" rear axle in the Toyota Sienna though less expensive doesn't offer the suprior ride of the independent suspension.

5. "Space the final frontier"
When it comes down to it there is just more space in the Nissan Quest. It has 177.8 cubic feet compared to the Sienna's 164.4. For those of you with long legs you will find the Quest much more comfortable. There is an extra 3 inches for front seat legroom and 4.2 inches more legroom for third row occupants.

Walk for the Children's Hospital of Boston

So nothing is scarier than a picture of myself (Lisa Rogers) but I just had to show off my awesome lime green t-shirt for NSTAR's Walk for the Children's Hospital Boston. I am very proud to say that I work for a company who is helping to sponsor 4 of its employees in this event. Kim Guerin, Lexi Capoccia, Joe Brouliette and I (see epic picture above) from Framingham Nissan will be walking this Sunday for the 7 mile walk around the Charles River in Boston. Nissan's NV200 (based off the Nissan Commercial Vehicles) was selected as the "Taxi of Tomorrow" for New York City. This minivan will begin its service in late 2013 when it will replace the 16 different models currently being used by NYC taxi companies. The announcement was made yesterday at City Hall and included Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Nissan Americas Chairman Carlos Tavares.

"Nissan is proud to provide the next generation of taxis for the City of New York," said Tavares. "The NV200 taxi will give Nissan the opportunity to showcase our dedication to vehicle quality and urban mobility to more than 600,000 passengers every day."

NYC is also exploring opportunities to take advantage of Nissan's electric vehicle technology. Nissan is supplying up to 6 Nissan LEAFs and charging stations throughout the city for the cause. Taxi owners will begin testing the zero-emission vehicles in 2012.

Nissan's Battery Powered Race Car

At the New York Auto Show, the Nissan Leaf Nismo Racer was revealed. This car will travel from 0-62 mph in just 6.9 seconds and all that will be accomplished with zero-emissions. Fully battery powered, it will be making its way to the race track soon. Nissan plans to demonstrate its power and capabilities at several different races this year. The company will begin "exploring a pioneer zero-emission competition spec series in future years."
Currently, Nismo Leaf can only last 20 minutes at racing speed and then will need to recharge for 30 minutes to get to 80% of its battery life.

Many of us ignore the odd rattling noses or smells coming from our vehicles. The problem is that these are usually the sign a more serious issue. Here are a few of the warning signs your vehicle might be giving you and what they could mean.

Sight:

symptom: Vehicle is leaning to one sign
diagnosis: Could be an indication of a broken spring

Statistics: Texting while Driving

It is against the law in Connecticut and Massachusetts to text while driving. Since this info-graph (see above image) came out 11 more states have added this law to their books making a total of 30. The Governors Highway Safety Association has a great information on each state and their laws regarding cell phones.

51.4% of teenagers admitted to texting while driving and 45.1% of 20-24 year olds. Just by talking on the phone you are 4 times more likely to cause an accident which is equivalent to your chances when driving drunk (.08 BAC). The scary part? You are 8 times more likely to cause an accident texting.

Nissan Commercial Vehicle Comparison Test

The all new Nissan Commercial Vehicle is on route to Framingham Nissan. However, this past Monday the crew got the chance to do some comparison testing: The 2012 Nissan NV 2500 high roof with a V6 engine verse the 2010 Ford E-250 with a V8 engine.

Nissan started from ground 0 and took the time to listen to what business owners had to say. It is evident in the design and usability of the van how much they took that to heart. We judged the vans in several different categories: driver comfort and usability, cargo space and functionality, drive-ability and price.

Driver Comfort and Usability:

For many of you reading this right now you are getting in and out of vans at least 25 times a day if not more, plus often putting hundreds of miles on them weekly. Nissan made van that was built with the driver in mind.

The NV is lower to the ground, making it easier to get in and out of.
There is more leg and foot room. The Ford E-250's wheels are right where the driver or passenger would put their legs.
The long nose front of the NV means you can eliminate the traditional "dog house." In its place Nissan placed a center console that is designed as your mobile office. You can hang files, there is room for a laptop and clipboard not to mention a power source.

Cargo Space and Functionality:

Being comfortable is great (and makes workers more productive) but the reason anyone needs a commercial van is so they can do their job. In this category the advantage is clearly to Nissan, if only for the reason that Ford does not offer a high roof.

High Roof is a definite advantage. Our General Sales Manager who is 6'5" could stand up at full height.
The body of the NV comes with pre-drilled holes so that customization is easy. Also, this means you wont have to drill holes in the body, like in the Ford, which can cause damage and rusting.
The back door on all of the NV's open 243 degrees and lock against the van with magnets.
Nissan's has a single sliding side door as oppose to the Ford which has double barn doors. The benefit of the sliding door is that it wont get in the way of the opening and closing of the passenger door nor will you have to worry about a big gust of wind closing them on you.
Cargo capacity

Nissan high roof is 323.1 cubic feet
Ford standard roof is 237.8

Towing capacity

Nissan-7000 (V6 with accessory hitch)
Ford- 5600-10,000 V8

Drive-ability:

We were given the chance to test drive both vehicles and the difference was incredible.

Noise

Nissan still had normal road noises but it was considerably quieter than the Ford.
Driving in the Ford was like driving in an echo chamber.

Handling

I have heard it said many times but I didn't believe it till I felt it, the NV handles like a truck.
Ford handles like a big van. You feel every corner you take and you better hope you aren't taking them to fast.

Smoothness of Ride

At one point we went over a couple of speed bumps. In the Ford all of the cargo we had in the back lifted a couple of inches in the air and came crashing down. You definitely felt every bump in the road.

Pricing:

Since I do not have the pricing on the 2010 Ford E-250 I am choosing the 2011 Ford E-150 as a comparison point.

At the 2011 Geneva Automotive Show, Nissan released its new concept car. The Nissan Esflow is an electric sports car. That is correct. I said electric sports car.

Think you've got electric cars figured out? Nissan is claiming that this puppy can go from 0-62 mph in just under 5 seconds. And all of that power comes from the same laminated lithium-ion battery pack found in the Leaf. At full charge the battery should last up to 150 miles, more than enough to cover most people's average days drive. Whether this vehicle will ever come to fruition or not...only time can tell.

I had purchased my 2009 Nissan Murano and ten days later – had to go from Worcester, MA to New York, NY in a snowstorm to see the Radio City Christmas Show. I had my two children in the car and it was our first snow experience in the Murano. To be honest, I was terrified. The weather was horrible, traffic conditions were a nightmare, and I had my most precious cargo on-board. I packed up the Murano, which seemed to swallow up all of the usual stuff for our trip with no problem. I got my kids settled in and off we went. Aside from the fact that the speed was slower than normal, the trip couldn’t have been any easier. The Murano performed incredibly well. I could not get over how well it seemed to hug the road – even in the snow!! The interior was as quiet as any luxury car that I have ever been in. I was white knuckled for the first 20 minutes just because I didn’t know how the Murano would be able to perform. After I realized how well it did – I never looked back. We made it to the Christmas Show at Radio City with 10 minutes to spare!!! The Murano has been a valued and trusted member of our family ever since.

My favorite memory of my new 2010 Sentra was waiting for my oldest daughter to return from her first time driving with her mom. It was as unnerving as watching the Bruins going into overtime in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Fortunately, there was only minor damage to the car due to scraping a curb. On Tuesday December 14th Nissan finally released the much anticipated pricing of their new 2012 Commercial Vehicle Series to be released in the Massachusetts area February 2011.

MSRP for the Standard Roof Models range from $24,590-$29,790

Understanding Brake Pads

Hello this is Erik Olson, Service Director from Framingham Nissan,

Brakes are probably one of the easiest repairs to understand if you know the right questions to ask.

Ask if you can go out to the shop and see the brakes.
Find out what pad thickness the brakes start out at when they are new.
Find out what the factory considers "zero lift left" or...

Brakes generally start out at 13mm in the front and 9mm in the rear

Usually the factory will discard brakes at 3mm in the front and 2mm in the rear.

If you know the size of a new brake pad and the size it is now, take your mileage now and divide by the mm used up and you will get a rough idea of how many miles you have left on your brake pads.

For instance, my front brake pads start out at a thickness of 13mm and right now, after 20,000 miles, are at 6mm. 20,000/(13-6)=2,857.14

You are estimating around 2,857 miles left on your brake pads.

Knowing these facts can help you understand why you need brakes, but the best advice I can give you is to ask to go out to the shop and look for yourself.

Safely Jump Start your Car

No one wants to be caught with a dead battery, especially during the holiday season. Here are some tips on how to safely jump start your car without damaging the battery or starter.

It is possible for batteries to explode. Make sure you turn off both cars before you proceed.
Connect the positive cable end to the positive battery terminal of the dead battery.
Once that is complete connect the positive cable end to the positive end of the working battery.
Next connect the negative end of the cable to the negative terminal of the working battery.
Attach the remaining negative cable to the unpainted metal of the car engine (as far away from the battery as possible). The below image shows you what it will look like.

Now you just have to wait a few moments before you try to start your car. If it doesn’t start, start the working car and then try the dead one again.
When the car starts, make sure you disconnect the cables in the opposite order.
If your car still does not start, don’t continue to try to charge it. This could lead to damage of the car’s starter. You should take the battery to a service center to get it repaired.
If you are successful you should still make sure your car battery if fully recharged by hooking it up to a charger for the night. You can also drive for 5 or 10 miles.

Buying a car can be stressful experience, especially when you aren’t sure of the first step to take. I sat down with a General Manager from a store that rates incredibly high on satisfaction and asked him what someone can do to better prepare themselves for the process and what you should expect from a dealership.

Start by searching dealers in your area and seeing how past customers have rated them. Google Places and Yahoo! Local are definitely great options but you might want to try dealerrater.com which is specifically dedicated to, as the title suggests, rating automotive dealers. It is important to keep an open mind because as many of us know it is impossible to satisfy everyone. If you do find a legitimate complaint see how the dealership responded them, if at all.
If you have a trade-in find out how much money you still owe on it. Also do some research to find out how much your vehicle is worth. Autotrader.com has a new feature called the trade-in marketplace. All you have to do is simply click on the Autotrader logo and enter your zip code and vehicle information. You'll receive a fast, free and guaranteed value for your car within minutes. Bring your offer to one of the dealerships they provide and even if you aren't going to buy from them, they'll still write you a check for your vehicle. They could even possibly offer you more for your vehicle.
Do research on the car you want but not only on the car you want, the equipment and packages that are important to you. For instance, perhaps you love leather seats but couldn’t care less if they were powered. You can save a lot of money by opting out of power seating and other similar functions. Not only that but consider going for an older model, right now a new 2010 has better incentives and value than a new 2011.
When you are given a quote, watch out for incentives and rebates. Most dealers will include all incentives and rebates in their discounted price, many of which you might not be eligible for. Usually there is fine print underneath however, be aware of dealerships that hide disclaimers on separate pages. If you are receiving a quote via email just ask what the incentives are. Often, you will find there is an incentive for college grads or military personnel and you might be neither. Remember, discounted prices usually don’t include things like sales tax and registration fees.
When you are at the dealership if you feel like you are being pressured into a specific car there could be several reasons. For example, the dealership will make more money if you buy one verse another or it has been on the lot for a while and they want to get rid of it.

The main thing with purchasing a vehicle is knowledge. Make sure to do your research. If you aren’t sure which car you want go to a dealership where you know you won’t be pressured to purchase and test drive a few. Then start exploring what options are out there. With the internet at your fingers there is a limitless amount of information you can find and I hope this helps you get started.

Juke Wins in a Test Drive Against Mini Countryman

Paul Horrell, a well known writer for the car industry, wrote an article for Motor Trend comparing the 2011 Nissan Juke and 2011 BMW Mini Countryman.
These compact cars were judged on several different categories:

Appearance

The Juke's appearance is definitely unique to the market. When I first saw the car I was primarily shocked at how small the car was. It was not at all what I was expecting but you will certainly stand out when driving it down the highway.
This Countryman was created with the Mini in mind and as Horrell said "it seems too much like a bloated parody of the two-door Mini hatchback."

Drive-ability

The Juke claims 8.4 seconds to 62 mph though slightly slower than the 8.3 seconds for the Mini, but "it seldom feels slower than the Mini."
Both of the cars have a bit of a body roll when taking corners but the Juke has better agility.

Space

Mini wins on space, even though the Juke is slightly longer. The wheelbase is longer and the boxier tail-end allows for more interior room. So much so that it can be compared with the Nissan Rogue.

Interior

The Juke's center console was visioned after the tank of a motorcycle, which in my opinion gives the car a very sleek feel and makes things easy to access. The most prominant feature of the dash has to be the HVAC buttons and screen play. You can switch from D-mode to Climate with a press of a button changing digital markings on the buttons (see below image). I was taken aback the first time I saw this in action.

"Within the cabin, the Countryman is very much a Mini, with rows of endearingly eccentric but hard-to-fathom switches, and the strange layout of dials that place the speedometer way out of your sightline."

In Horrell's eyes the Nissan Juke grabbed 1st place in the comparison for being "freakishly fun on the streets." The Mini Countryman can't stand up to the Juke and comes in 2nd. Just because it looks like a Mini doesn't mean it drives like one.

Why Maintain Correct Pressure

Under inflation or overloading creates excessive stress and heat, and can lead to tire failure. This could result in vehicle damage and/or serious injury or death.

And over inflated tire can cause uneven wear in the center of the tread. Over inflation also can make the tire more susceptible to road hazard damage and pose vehicle handling issues.

Check Your Tire Pressure

· Check tire pressure once a month and before long journeys.

· When you check the inflation, make sure the tires are cool-meaning they are not hot even from driving a mile.

· Check your spare tire to make sure it has enough air.

· Check for nails and other objects embedded that could poke a hole in the tire and cause an air leak.

Q: If I want to "prewire" a new home for a future Nissan LEAF owner, what is required?

A: The home charging dock will require a 220/240V 40 amp dedicated circuit connected to a breaker. The charging dock will need to be hard-wired directly to the circuit by a certified electrician.

Q: Will the navigation system list charge station areas?

A: The car will come equipped with CARWINGS. This in-car telematics system will show you battery power and status, charging stations, and more.

Q: I live in an apartment. How would I go about charging the car?

A: Start talking to your apartment complex owner and other residents about charging stations. You can also use public infrastructure as it becomes available.

Q: Since the Nissan LEAF solely runs on electricity, would charging from home dramatically increase my electricity bill?

A: Based on a US average of $0.11/kWh, a full charge will cost about $2.75. It could be even less, if your area has time-of-use rates and you charge at off-peak hours.

Q: How long does it take to charge?

A: Most people will charge it like a cell phone overnight at home. A full charge will take 8h on a 220/240V home charging station. A 480V quick-charging capability will eventually be available in many markets once a standard is set.

Q: How much torque does the Nissan LEAF have?

A: The exact specs of the Nissan LEAF are still under development. It does, however, have 100% torque available at 0 RPM!

Q: Towards the end of the battery's 5-year life, will the mileage decrease?

A: We expect the battery to have a lifespan of 5-10 years. Like any battery, usage and age will lead to a gradual loss of capacity which will impact your driving range.

Q: What distance does it cover on a single charge?

A: Up to 100 miles, based on the LA4 drive cycle conducted in laboratory tests using EPA test methodology. Range will vary with driving habits, conditions, weather and battery age.

The new 2011 Nissan Juke will definitely get your adrenaline pumping. This car can do pretty much everything but cook you dinner and fully loaded it will run you around $22,000 retail. This car has been creating a lot of buzz around the showroom and it seems like everyone has been asking for it so I decided to do a little research on the matter.

So here are 5 reasons (in no particular order) why the Juke is pretty sweet.

1. The interior is sleek. Its one-of-a-kind interior that melds car and motorcycle into one.
2. Nissan Intelligent Key and Push Button. You just walk up to the car and it senses the key in your pocket and it unlocks the door all you have to do is push a button on the handle.
3. Turbocharged 188-hp Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) engine. What does that mean you might ask? Basically it has the power when you need and the delivers fuel-sipping economy when you don't.
4. Navigation System with real-time traffic updates from XM NavTraffic.
5. RearView Monitor lets you see what is going on behind you. Nice for when you need to back into a tight space.

Darwin Awards: Jet Pack Take Off

The Arizona Highway Patrol were mystified when they came upon a pile of smoldering wreckage embedded in the side of a cliff rising above the road at the apex of a curve. The metal debris resembled the site of an airplane crash, but it turned out to be the vaporized remains of an automobile. The make of the vehicle was unidentifiable at the scene.

The folks in the lab finally figured out what it was, and pieced together the events that led up to its demise.

It seems that a former Air Force sergeant had somehow got hold of a JATO (Jet Assisted Take-Off) unit. JATO units are solid fuel rockets used to give heavy military transport airplanes an extra push for take-off from short airfields.

Dried desert lakebeds are the location of choice for breaking the world ground vehicle speed record.The sergeant took the JATO unit into the Arizona desert and found a long, straight stretch of road. He attached the JATO unit to his car, jumped in, accelerated to a high speed, and fired off the rocket.

The facts, as best as could be determined, are as follows:

The operator was driving a 1967 Chevy Impala. He ignited the JATO unit approximately 3.9 miles from the crash site. This was established by the location of a prominently scorched and melted strip of asphalt. The vehicle quickly reached a speed of between 250 and 300 mph and continued at that speed, under full power, for an additional 20-25 seconds. The soon-to-be pilot experienced G-forces usually reserved for dog-fighting F-14 jocks under full afterburners. The Chevy remained on the straight highway for approximately 2.6 miles (15-20 seconds) before the driver applied the brakes, completely melting them, blowing the tires, and leaving thick rubber marks on the road surface. The vehicle then became airborne for an additional 1.3 miles, impacted the cliff face at a height of 125 feet, and left a blackened crater 3 feet deep in the rock.

Ironically a still-legible bumper sticker was found, reading "How do you like my driving? Dial 1-800-EAT-SHIT."

Nissan Leaf Costs Just $349 / month! Lease or Purchase

Nissan released full details today on pricing and equipment options for its 2011 Nissan Leaf electric car. Available as a traditional purchase or three-year lease, the Leaf will be priced at $32,780 without delivery fees, which have not yet been announced.

But the Leaf's starting MSRP is before the federal tax credit, which could bring the price down $7,500, to $25,280. Plus, certain states are eligible for additional credits. Of course, buyers will need to consider the cost of installing a home charging dock, which Nissan estimates will cost $2,200 before a 50-percent tax credit.

Leasing a 2011 Leaf will require a $1,999 down payment, plus $349 per month, prior to the cost of the charging dock. As the lesser and therefore actual owner of the Leaf, Nissan receives the applicable tax credits, factoring the savings into the customer's monthly payments.

Available in two trim levels, standard SV and uplevel SL, all Leaf SVs will come with navigation, remote start and remote charging operated through a smart phone app or laptop computer, LED headlamps, Bluetooth, Intelligent Key, vehicle dynamic control, traction control, six airbags, XM Satellite Radio and 3 years roadside assistance.

For an additional $940, the SL trim adds a rearview camera, solar panel spoiler which provides a trickle charge, cargo cover, auto headlamps and fog lights.

Nissan says more than 80,000 "hand-raisers" have already registered on the Leaf's dedicated Web site to show interest in the electric car. On April 20, all registries will have three weeks to make a purchase reservation for a refundable $99 fee. On May 15, Nissan will open up the purchase reservation process to the general public.

Confirmed buyers will eventually be able to place official orders through the Nissan dealer of their choice, provided the dealer has already completed the mandatory Leaf certification process, which is open to the entire Nissan dealer network.

Leafs are expected to begin arriving in dealerships in December. Nissan says it currently has a global capacity to build 50,000 units for the first two years, with plans to increase production substantially in 2013.

Motortrend has posted a video of a 1/4 mile drag race between the Nissan GT-R and the Bentley Continental Supersports. Both are oozing style and power, but looks can only take you so far! How will it end when these behemoths take it to the track?

You can view the video here, but I'll spoil the ending for you! Of course, the lovely Nissan GT-R comes out on top vs the Bentley, posting a much faster time, and with a much lower price tag. Nissan Leaf Home-Charging Station Makes Debut

Nissan on Monday announced at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show that AeroVironment will supply electric vehicle home-charging stations and installation services for consumers who buy the electric Nissan Leaf. Pricing on both the Leaf and the home-charging station has not been announced, however.

The Leaf debuts in December, with observers speculating that it will come in around $30,000 — but that doesn't take into account the $7,500 federal tax credit that will be available for the first 200,000 units of the Leaf. In addition, some states offer tax credits for electric vehicles.

"It's literally still being worked out," said Nissan spokesperson Katherine Zachary in a telephone conversation, when contacted Tuesday morning by Inside Line about pricing for the Leaf and the home-charging station. "Consumers should be aware that a $2,000 federal tax credit will go toward the purchase and installation of a home-charging unit. And if you have a 220-volt line in your garage, that will defray the cost of installation."

Zachary also said that AeroVironment eventually plans to offer a range of home-charging stations to consumers down the road. "Some of them will be 'smart' and programmable," she said. Although the Leaf can be plugged into an existing electrical outlet, Zachary said the home-charging unit will act like a surge protector between the vehicle and your garage.

Nissan will announce pricing on the Leaf and the home-charging station in the spring, she said.

In a statement, Nissan said the Nissan-branded charging stations will be available at the sale of each Nissan Leaf "as part of the vehicle's total driving system." It will take eight hours to fully charge the Nissan Leaf.
